Concept of the month July 2010: TURNING POINT

Goldfish donít just swim around in circles. The two that stayed at my house this month, also turn around sometimes. As for them, for me July has been a month of turning points. No wonder after a World Cup that made emotions fly everywhere, like bouncy balls in a roofed bouncy castle.

It may well be that drastic changes tend to arise gradually, but I quite enjoy clinging onto turning points, only to push off of them like the experienced swimmer I am. Another relevant detail is whether youíre in a 50-metre or a 25-metre pool. Ironically, I most prefer swimming in the sea, the alternative with the fewest turning points. Always watch your back when it comes to metaphors.

My turning points are football-related. On the training pitch, I manage to shrug off the drowsiness. On the nights after, I succeed in turning fatigue into relaxation. The men in orangeís equalizer against Brazil marks the transformation of a bunch of decent football players into a team of winners. The following hours see me drawing bliss from sixteen year-old sorrow.

The swimmer has passed by the fear, bathing in freedom and headed for a good rest. The footballer stifles his hangover in white grapes and coke. Both are ready for the next turning point.
