Concept of the month January 2010: SNOWBALL EFFECT

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy 2010 World Cup. It will be played on the southern hemisphere this time, when it is winter over there. Over here, it has been a winter with plenty of snow. Sometimes, it would pile up to 30 centimetres on the training pitch. This won’t stop members of my club. On the contrary, playing football in the snow is all the more fun.

This month I have joined them again. The ball rising in clouds, the ground crackling, voices stifling, slide-tackles refreshing, falling softly. A poetic experience that makes you come back for more. That is the snowball effect for you.

The snowball effect can turn a modest lucky break into a feast of joy. Just reaching a pass after sprinting for it doesn’t leave you tired, but inspired for the next dash. Especially if the barely reached pass is used for a cross that leads to a terrific goal.

The snow that fell this year, packs together quite well. This means the final requirement is met to make for a glorious snowball effect. Now, the virtuous circle can take effect. More capacity leads to more will power leads to more capacity leads to more will power leads to more capacity leads to more…
